A reader once wrote a letter about this book that I want to share part of, because it reminds me of why I write:

"I picked up both Who Left that Body in the Rain? and Who Invited the Dead Man? on Friday, and finished reading both by Tuesday. I pretty much devoured them faster than a quart of Haggen Daz chocolate ice cream after a bad romantic breakup. It is one of the few times I could be thankful for a cold, because it gave me a reason to curl up in bed at 6 p.m. and read without feeling guilty. The last two years have been very difficult ones for me and culminated in my being diagnosed with severe depression. Any book that can make me laugh out loud right now is one that I will treasure and re-read."

The Story
Maynard Spence was getting married. To celebrate, he bought a BMW convertible. The problem was, car dealer Skellton MacDonald had already promised that car to somebody else. Only because Skell was late to work did his father, Skye MacDonald, sell Maynard the car.

MacLaren Yarbrough doesn't consider any of that her problem until Maynard and Selena go on their honeymoon and wind up in jail because of the car. Meanwhile, Skell has disappeared, and Skye has been found lying dead on a dirt road just inside the city limits. The grief of Skye's wife Gwen Ellen, whom MacLaren has known all her life and, in fact, used to babysit, drives Mac to begin asking, "Who ran over Skye MacDonald with his own car and left him dead on a deserted road? Who left that body in the rain?"

Author praise for the book:

"Charms, mystifies and delights. As Southern as Sunday fried chicken and sweet tea."
                                                                                                   Carolyn Hart

"A novel to be savored while sitting on a creaky swing on the front porch, a pitcher of lemonade nearby, a dog slumbering in the sunlight."                          Joan Hess

"Authentic and convincing. This series is a winner."                            Tamar Myers
