Do you believe you need to teach your children household skills, but don't know where to begin? When your child sticks out that lower lip and demands, 'Do I have to?', this seminar will give you ammunition to reply, firmly and confidently, "You certainly do!"

A seminar for congregations, schools, business organizations, community organizations, and corporate settings designed for parents or entire families to help prepare children for responsible adulthood. Based on Patricia Sprinkle’s popular book, Children Who Do Too Little.

Today's Children are bright and busy people. So why, when they grow up, do so many of them have problems getting a job, holding a job, and staying married? Today's Parents are bright and busy people. So why are they exhausting themselves doing all the housework AND driving the children all over town?

A WISE PARENT KNOWS . . . A child is the only substance from which a responsible adult can be made.

Time Frame: Three hours preferred. One hour seminar also offered for corporate organizations, parent/teacher associations, and church school classes.

Sessions include both teaching AND activities.

TOPICS COVERED:

  • What adult skills do children need to learn--and WHY? How to determine which skills each child in a family has not yet mastered, and set up a "learning plan" for each child.
  • Why DON'T we teach them household skills? Ways in which differences between each parent's expectations, and roles parents assume, hinder consistent training. .
  • HOW do we teach a child a skill? How to teach skills, not chores. Also, age-appropriate tasks, and how to make cleaning more fun.
  • How can we make housework a family issue? How to hold family meetings that involve all family members in decision-making, conflict resolution, and household planning.
  • Rewards and Consequences. Rewards and consequences that can encourage children to accept household responsibilities.

Seminar Fees: Negotiable depending on size of group and length of seminar. One-hour seminar given free in any congregation hosting a seminar on Women Who Do Too Much.

Author will provide books for book table on request.
